Small rubber cable grommets often share limited panel space with clips, screws or formed features. The outside flange needs enough room to seat without resting on neighboring hardware. A correct bore diameter does not resolve an interference at the outer edge.
For a custom automotive installation, define the opening location and the clearance around both panel faces. A nearby screw head may allow the grommet to fit before fastening but lift its lip once the hardware is tightened. Evaluate the complete local assembly in the intended installation order.
Material and color options can be selected for the mounting environment. Fit the part without stretching a thin retaining area around an obstruction, and check that the cable approaches the bore naturally after its clips are secured. Small seating errors can be difficult to see, so inspect the less accessible side before other components hide it. During service, look for a cut near adjacent hardware and correct any interference before installing another part of the same profile.
