An automotive rubber wire grommet lines the opening where wiring passes through a vehicle panel or component. Its custom outer profile fits the receiving hole, while the bore or passage accommodates the wire arrangement. The design should account for how the harness is routed after the surrounding vehicle parts are assembled.
A harness may approach the opening from one direction during installation and settle into another after clips or adjacent components are fitted. Inspect the grommet in that final route. The wire should not pull the retaining lip away from the panel or rub directly on the hole edge. Account for the available bend space, and let the intended harness supports carry the routing forces.
Vehicle locations vary in their exposure to heat, water, fluids, and cleaning products. Select the rubber compound for the specific installation area rather than applying one material assumption throughout the vehicle. Before seating the part, remove burrs from the opening and check the panel finish. Following wiring maintenance, inspect the flange and the wire exit together, particularly where access hides one side of the grommet.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. The custom outer profile fits the receiving hole, while the bore or passage accommodates the wire arrangement. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
