Automotive rubber grommets separate a wiring harness from the edge of a panel opening. At a vehicle panel crossing, the harness may be constrained by clips on either side, so its installed route is important to the grommet's position. The rubber should cover the edge without being used to pull a misaligned bundle into place.
Check the harness in its normal clipped position before judging the entry fit. Allow for the movement expected between adjacent parts and inspect the route at the panel itself. A clip located too far away may leave the bundle pressing sideways on the grommet, while an unsuitable approach angle can concentrate contact at one edge.
The panel thickness, cutout geometry and bundle size define the basic profile. Material selection should follow the exposure at the mounting location, including nearby heat, fluids or outdoor conditions. ETOL can develop round, oval or other custom shapes where a catalog part does not suit the crossing.
After assembly, inspect both sides of the retaining flange and move the harness only within its intended range. Confirm that the rubber stays seated and that a connector or protective sleeve is not bearing against the panel edge. Edge protection does not by itself establish strain relief or an environmental seal, so those functions belong in the complete harness design.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. At a vehicle panel crossing, the harness may be constrained by clips on either side, so its installed route is important to the grommet's position. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
