Silicone cable grommets cushion wiring where it crosses a panel opening. Their design can be customized in structure, dimensions, material, hardness and color. A successful fit needs to survive the assembly sequence as well as look correct in the finished enclosure.
Consider when the grommet goes onto the cable and when the panel becomes accessible. A cable that is terminated before routing may carry a connector too large for the protected passage. Forcing that connector through can stretch the rubber or nick its inner edge, even if the cable jacket itself fits comfortably. Establish the sequence before finalizing the component dimensions.
After the grommet is seated, complete the cable route without twisting it against the panel. Check again after internal connections are made, because tying the harness into place can change the load at the opening. Keep unused grommets away from sharp terminals during assembly. When equipment is reopened later, inspect the protected boundary before pulling a connector back through it; the correct removal order may prevent damage to an otherwise reusable part.
