Silicone rubber grommets and plugs can be customized for cable openings and unused positions within the same assembly. A version with a hole needs a passage matched to the cable, while a closed version needs suitable retention against the forces it encounters without a cable present. Sharing an outside profile does not make those duties identical.
Define the panel interface and the intended internal geometry for each configuration. The hole should suit the finished jacket or harness wrapping, including any variation that affects contact. The custom material and color can be coordinated with the enclosure environment and part identification.
During assembly, fit the correct open or closed version rather than modifying a solid component informally to create a passage. Check the retaining lip before and after routing the cable, since a populated opening may introduce sideways load. If an unused position is converted later, review the cable support and any sealing requirement as well as replacing the closure. Inspect both variants for a rolled edge that may be hidden beneath the visible flange.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. A version with a hole needs a passage matched to the cable, while a closed version needs suitable retention against the forces it encounters without a cable present. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
