A silicone rubber seal gasket forms a compressible interface between adjoining components. Its custom outline and thickness can be matched to the sealing faces, fastening pattern, and available space. Where alkaline cleaning is part of the process, the selected compound must suit that exposure as well as the normal operating medium.
Include the cleaner concentration, temperature, and contact time in the material choice. Cleaning may expose the gasket differently from regular operation, especially if solution remains in a recess after the cycle. Silicone should not be assumed to tolerate every alkaline formulation simply because the gasket fits the joint mechanically.
The sealing faces should support the gasket evenly and remain free of residue before the parts are closed. Position the rubber without stretching it around fasteners or leaving an edge outside the intended contact area. After service, inspect for changes in shape or condition and clean the seating area before installing a replacement. A correct gasket profile works with the joint geometry and assembly pressure to form the required seal.
