A Buna-N rubber wire grommet provides a flexible interface around a cable where it passes through a rigid opening. Buna-N is another name for NBR, and the particular compound should be selected for the fluids, cleaning products and temperatures present around the installation. The cable jacket must be considered at the same time, since both materials share the contact area.
For an assembly exposed to occasional liquid residue, examine where that residue can collect. A recessed bushing face or a downward cable loop may keep the rubber in contact with a fluid longer than a brief splash suggests. Evaluate the selected compound using representative exposure conditions and then check whether the bore fit or panel retention changes.
The molded dimensions can be customized for the cable and mounting hole. Avoid using extra interference as a substitute for a suitable material choice; excessive squeezing can make routing difficult and distort the jacket. Keep the opening free of sharp edges, and inspect the bushing during maintenance for swelling, hardening or displacement at the panel seat.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. The cable jacket must be considered at the same time, since both materials share the contact area. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
