A weather resistant rubber grommet is intended for a protected cable transition in a location exposed to changing conditions. The custom range allows the material and geometry to be chosen for the actual panel. Its mechanical purpose is to keep the cable from rubbing directly against the cutout.
Map the exposure on both sides of the opening. The exterior may receive rain and sunlight while the interior sees warmth from equipment or condensation. Select the compound for that combination rather than assuming the phrase weather resistant establishes a complete service specification. Evaluate the fitted material through the intended exposure conditions, including temperature changes and the required water protection.
Water protection also depends on the interfaces with the panel and cable. Check the contact after the cable is routed, including any sideways loading that could open a local gap. A cover or other enclosure feature may change how water reaches the entry and belongs in the assessment.
During inspection, look beneath the visible flange for accumulated dirt and check the cable jacket where it meets the rubber. Changes in shape, cracking or a loose panel fit should prompt replacement and a review of the conditions. Do not use sealant as a substitute for a correctly specified grommet unless it is part of the intended assembly design.
