A rubber cable grommet for a wire harness surrounds the grouped wiring route where it crosses a panel opening. The harness may have a less regular profile than a single cable, so the center space needs to accommodate the actual bundle without forcing an individual wire hard against one edge. The outside groove separately locates the part in the panel.
Consider both the finished harness and the assembly sequence. A connector or branch may need clearance before the bundle reaches its final position. Do not assume that enough room for the cable group automatically provides a route for every attached component during installation.
Seat the grommet around the panel opening and arrange the harness so that nearby supports manage its ongoing movement. The insert should not be pulled out of position by a tight bend or a heavy unsupported section. Inspect for local rubbing on individual wires and for wear beneath the panel-contact flange. Any required sealing or strain relief function needs evaluation of the complete harness entry rather than being inferred from the presence of a rubber surround.
