An EPDM rubber bushing can be developed with a sleeve that follows the cable away from its mounting point. The transition between the supported portion and the freely bending cable is a useful design focus. An abrupt change in stiffness or a poorly positioned sleeve end can concentrate bending in a short section of jacket.
Choose the sleeve length with the cable's permitted bend radius and nearby fixing points in mind. There should be room for the cable to follow its intended route without folding the rubber or pushing the bushing sideways. The selected EPDM compound also needs to suit the temperature, liquids and cleaning routine at the installation.
Custom molding allows the bore, panel engagement and exit profile to be coordinated. Fit the bushing before securing the final cable route, then check again after the clips are tightened. Look for a localized crease at the sleeve exit rather than assuming that a longer cover always provides better protection. During inspection, examine both the rubber and the cable immediately beyond it, where unsupported movement begins.
