Product Overview

Different grommet sizes can be needed for cables that look similar once installed. A preassembled connector, an extra outer sleeve or a junction in the harness may be wider than the cable section that finally rests in the opening. Selection should therefore consider how the wiring gets through the panel as well as how it sits afterward.

ETOL provides varied grommet profiles and can customize the rubber material, hardness and color. Establish the assembly order before choosing a small center bore. Threading an unfinished cable through first may be possible in one design, while a harness supplied with fixed connectors calls for another approach.

The panel hole and its thickness remain separate measurements. Enlarging the center passage should not leave the outer mounting section loose, and stretching a tight bore over a bulky plug should not tear the rubber.

For an entry that must be assembled around a finished harness, decide whether access exists before the harness is connected elsewhere. That decision affects whether a closed ring can be installed at all. Avoid solving an assembly-order problem by cutting an otherwise suitable ring: the cut may change edge coverage and retention. A size comparison is most useful when it includes that practical installation constraint from the beginning.

When assessing a candidate part, try the real cable assembly rather than a loose length of wire. Check the connector shoulders for sharp features and support the rubber while passing them through. Finish by making sure the center has recovered around the cable and the retaining groove has not been pulled partly out of its seat.

Material options
Custom rubber compound and color, selected for the contact conditions and required geometry.
Hardness range
30–90 Shore A for rubber. Assess the grade against this fit requirement: Enlarging the center passage should not leave the outer mounting section loose, and stretching a tight bore over a bulky plug should not tear the rubber.

Round Grommet Size Catalog

Choose a profile to compare part numbers and dimensions. Inch and metric sizes are listed in separate tables.

Type D Round Grommets in Inches

274 entries for Type D round through-hole grommets. Original fractions are retained, and exactly equivalent standard inch fractions replace decimal values where possible. Other values remain decimal inches.

Ordering this custom component

Can the shape be adjusted to my mating parts?

Yes. Show the receiving opening, contact surfaces and clearance limits. We can review the dimensions and retaining features around the intended fit.

Which details should be agreed before tooling?

Agree the critical dimensions, material, hardness, visible surfaces and sample requirements. Explain how the part is installed and which interfaces control its function.

Can a sample help define the replacement?

A sample can help explain the structure. Compare it with the assembly because wear, swelling or compression may have changed its original dimensions.

How is the quotation for this part determined?

The material, part geometry, tooling, quantity and finishing affect the quotation. Include the intended batch size and delivery destination when describing your requirements.
