The food grade silicone grommet provides a flexible boundary between a panel cutout and the cable or wire passing through it. Its mechanical purpose is edge protection: the silicone occupies the contact area that would otherwise expose the cable jacket to the panel. The material, hardness and color can be customized within the product range.
In equipment associated with food, identify whether the grommet directly touches food, sits in a splash area or remains inside a dry enclosure. These positions have different exposure conditions. The food grade wording does not specify every permitted substance, contact duration or cleaning regime, so suitability belongs to the selected compound and actual application.
The installation should avoid narrow gaps that are difficult to clean around the flange. Check both the panel opening and cable clearance, allowing the rubber to sit naturally rather than stretching it tightly around an oversized bundle.
Inspect the passage after cleaning to ensure residue is not lodged between the cable and the inner lip. Do not enlarge the opening with rough cuts, which can create uneven contact and make the area harder to maintain. Replace a damaged grommet with a correctly sized version.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. The mechanical purpose is edge protection: the silicone occupies the contact area that would otherwise expose the cable jacket to the panel. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
