A round rubber gasket can provide an annular flexible interface, with its custom geometry developed for sealing or for a defined cushioning contact. These functions need different emphasis. A sealing face requires an uninterrupted contact boundary, while a cushioning role depends on how the load enters and compresses the rubber body.
For either arrangement, the central opening must clear the mating feature without forcing the ring off center. The surrounding material needs a supported seat, and its thickness should suit the available assembled space. A narrow edge resting over a recess can deform differently from the rest of the ring.
Specify the actual duty before selecting the compound and profile. A washer that fits around the same fastener may still behave differently under load. Fit the part without twisting it and examine the contact impression after initial assembly where practical. If the rubber is being pushed into the opening or beyond its outer seat, review the compression space rather than relying on additional tightening to secure the joint.
