Automobile rubber grommets separate wire jackets from the edges of receiving openings. The custom molded part should match the vehicle panel and the intended wire route, creating a defined rubber contact where the harness passes through. Correct seating is necessary before surrounding trim conceals the entry.
Measure the opening, finished wall thickness, and wire or bundle profile. The assembly sequence also needs to allow any connector to reach its intended side of the panel. A small bore should not be stretched around an enlarged end unless the component was designed for that fitting method.
Remove burrs and seat the grommet without trapping a wire beneath its lip. Inspect the full perimeter before securing the nearby covers. Support the harness so normal movement does not repeatedly lever the insert against the panel. Select the compound for the actual vehicle environment. During service, check the rubber after wiring changes and replace a cut or displaced part before the jacket can contact the exposed edge of the opening.
