Rubber sealing grommets should be developed for the amount of cable movement expected at the entry. A bore intended to remain stationary around a jacket faces different contact conditions when the cable is repeatedly pulled through it during adjustment. Define that movement before choosing the profile and material.
Custom geometry can match the cable diameter and the panel's retaining features. Select the compound for the jacket material, exposure and expected friction at the contact. If the design requires a separate cable restraint, place it so routine loads do not reach the sealing region unnecessarily.
During assembly, avoid dragging rough wrapping or connector features through the finished bore without the intended support method. Inspect the inside lip for damage or folding afterward. Evaluate any sealing requirement using the actual cable position and normal movement conditions. During maintenance, a polished or worn band around the bore can reveal repeated motion that was not intended in the design. Review the cable support or adjustment method before treating a replacement grommet as the only correction.
