A wire seal rubber grommet provides a customizable interface at a panel crossing. The rubber cushions wires against cutout abrasion, with customizable structure, compound, dimensions, hardness and color for the required interface. For a sealing application, the arrangement of the wires is particularly important.
A group of separate wires does not present the same continuous outer surface as one round cable jacket. Spaces between wires can remain even if the rubber feels tight around the outside of the bundle. The passage therefore needs to be designed for the actual wire configuration rather than selected only from its total width.
Check the panel interface independently, including sheet thickness and the condition of the cut edge. Specify the contact around both the wires and the panel perimeter. Any required seal must be assessed in the completed arrangement, with the wires supported in their working positions.
During assembly, prevent individual wires from crossing or bunching within the passage. Inspect again after terminals are connected, because a short internal wire can pull the group sideways and disturb contact. If the wiring configuration changes, review the grommet fit as part of that change instead of simply forcing another conductor into the opening.
