A rubber insulating sleeve places a flexible layer between a contained part and the surrounding opening or component. In an NBR bushing design, the sleeve's inner and outer profiles define two separate interfaces, each of which needs the correct fit. Measuring only the central bore can overlook an unsuitable fit against the receiving housing.
Establish what separation the application requires. Mechanical cushioning and electrical insulation are different duties, and a generic rubber sleeve does not establish a rated electrical barrier. Material selection must also reflect the substances that contact the part during normal use and maintenance.
The sleeve length should cover the intended contact area without interfering with adjoining shoulders or end fittings. Assemble without rolling the rubber into the gap, and inspect exposed ends for uneven extrusion. If the contained part moves, evaluate that movement in the installed sleeve rather than assuming a bearing function. During servicing, check for wear hidden inside the bore as well as visible cracking around the ends.
