An expandable silicone sleeve should be developed for the amount of temporary deformation needed during installation and the fit required afterward. The sleeve's flexibility does not establish an unlimited expansion range. Its bore, wall thickness and length need to suit the component and assembly method.
Custom dimensions, material, hardness and color options allow the sleeve to follow the application. Check the largest feature it must pass over, such as an end fitting or local enlargement. If that feature requires excessive stretching, consider fitting the sleeve earlier in the assembly sequence.
Support the rubber during installation and inspect for thinning, folds or damage after it reaches its final position. The sleeve should recover into its intended shape without leaving a loose section or a tightly pinched area. Evaluate retention and clearance under representative use. During maintenance, examine the ends and any region stretched most heavily during fitting. Repeated damage at the same point may indicate an unsuitable installation path that needs revision rather than simply a softer silicone formulation.
