Silicone rubber O rings for thermos lids should remain in their intended seats as the closure is repeatedly opened. The motion of the lid can drag a ring differently from the compression present when it is closed. Assess both parts of that cycle when developing the custom profile.
Watch the ring immediately after opening, before handling it. A section lifted from the recess or moved toward the center can indicate that the retaining arrangement needs attention. Repositioning it each time may conceal a recurring mismatch between the ring and lid.
The ring needs to reach the contact surface when closed while staying properly located during opening. Additional thickness should not be used simply to hold a loose profile in place.
Keep the seat free from dried residue that can pull at the rubber. Refit the ring according to the thermos's care method and observe the next opening and closing sequence. Replace a torn or permanently stretched part with the specified section, and examine the lid retention features if the same movement returns.
