This silicone grommet is a customizable cable-edge protector for a panel opening. Its rubber profile cushions the wiring and can be adapted in dimensions, shape, hardness and color. For a location near heat, selection should account for the temperature experienced by the installed part, including contact with nearby components.
Select the compound for the required service temperature, exposure duration and any flame behavior criteria applicable to the completed cable entry. Consider heat exposure, electrical requirements and any fire separation function individually within the equipment design. The selected silicone formulation and the complete cable entry need to suit the intended conditions.
Keep the cable route away from hot edges where practical, and avoid placing the rubber under constant pressure against a heat-producing component. Check the entry after covers and neighboring parts are installed, since the final arrangement can change both clearance and cable position.
For maintenance, inspect the grommet for hardening, cracking, permanent deformation or a flange that no longer rests against the panel. Correct the source of unwanted contact before replacing the part. A new grommet should protect the opening without being stretched into place by the cable.
