A mechanical rubber seal o ring for a vehicle assembly should correspond to the particular joint, including its fluid exposure and motion. Flat gasket forms and round section rings create different sealing contacts, so identifying the correct format is the first step. A part that fits the visible opening may still be inappropriate for the groove beneath the mating component.
Check the section, diameter, and available closing gap. Include local operating temperature and the actual contacting medium when choosing the rubber compound. The joint's supporting surfaces should control the seal without allowing it to escape into a pressure loaded gap.
