A flat silicone rubber o ring presents a different contact section from a conventional round cord ring. Its flat faces should align with the intended mating surfaces, with the inner opening and outer edge positioned inside their designed support. Twisting the ring during fitting changes that contact and can leave a folded region where the joint needs to close evenly.
Choose thickness and face width around the available gap. For food related equipment, assess the selected silicone formulation and completed part for the actual contact, temperature, and cleaning conditions. The shape of the ring does not establish those material requirements by itself.
Lay the part flat before bringing the joint together. Keep its edge from moving into a passage or under a locating feature during closure. Inspect the full circumference after disassembly, looking for uneven flattening or local tears. If repeated cleaning or opening changes the recovered shape, replace the ring with the intended specification and review whether the handling route is pulling it out of its designed outline.
