A cable sealing grommet near an engine must preserve its intended contact while the connected structures move. The mounting panel and harness may not remain fixed relative to each other, so routing and support are central to the design. A seal evaluated with a perfectly centered stationary cable may not represent the installed condition.
Custom molded profiles can be developed in silicone and other selected rubber materials. Choose the compound for local heat, fluid contact and the expected operating cycle. The panel seat and cable contact region should each be defined around their actual mating surfaces.
Evaluate the harness through the relevant movement range with nearby clips and components installed. Check whether the cable pulls a lip away from the housing or compresses the bore heavily on one side. Any required sealing result should be assessed under those representative conditions.
During inspection, distinguish wear at the cable interface from damage around the panel groove. They may arise from different movements and require different corrections. Keep replacement parts matched to the intended compound and geometry, and review the routing whenever a nearby component or harness support is changed.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. A seal evaluated with a perfectly centered stationary cable may not represent the installed condition. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
