An automotive cable grommet for seal applications should be assessed through the full temperature cycle at its mounting location. Contact that appears satisfactory while the assembly is warm may change after cooling, particularly when the cable, panel and rubber respond differently to temperature. The selected compound and installed geometry need to work together.
Custom material options include silicone, EPDM, NBR and FKM families. Choose the formulation for the actual temperature and concurrent exposure, then evaluate it with the intended cable jacket and panel finish. A common material name does not establish one operating limit for every custom design.
Inspect the panel lip and cable bore after representative operation and again at the normal service condition. Look for a lasting gap, a shifted seat or a cable held at an angle by its supports. Keep the mating areas clean during assembly so trapped residue does not become part of the contact. If the cable route is changed during servicing, reassess the seated grommet before relying on the original sealing arrangement.
