A heat resisting rubber grommet cushions a cable where it passes through a panel opening near a warm area. It provides a softer contact surface than an exposed cut edge, reducing the opportunity for that edge to rub directly against the cable jacket. The selected rubber formulation must suit the actual temperatures at the opening.
Consider nearby heat sources as well as the surrounding air. A panel can conduct heat from a motor or other component even when the cable itself is not carrying a heavy load. The cable insulation and grommet material each need to remain suitable under those conditions; one heat-resistant part does not protect an unsuitable assembly.
Match the retaining groove to the panel thickness and allow the cable to pass without excessive squeezing. After fitting, confirm that the rim is seated around the entire hole. Inspect warmed assemblies for hardening, cracking or a displaced lip during routine maintenance. Route the cable with enough slack that expansion or servicing does not pull it sideways against the grommet.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. A panel can conduct heat from a motor or other component even when the cable itself is not carrying a heavy load. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
