Choose a place with enough clear surface for the entire cup. On a tiled wall, center it away from grout; on glass, allow clearance for the hanging object so it cannot swing against an edge. Damp surroundings also make regular cleaning of the contact area important, since soap film and deposits can interfere with the seal.

Evaluate the actual item and surface together, particularly when the object projects outward and pulls on the hook rather than hanging close to the wall. Holding should be checked in the intended position and load direction. Do not use the cup to secure valuable or hazardous objects above people.

Take the item off before checking or moving the cup. Clean both contact surfaces when suction weakens, inspect the flexible rim for damage and reattach only when the surface is ready. Adding another object to a hook that has already started slipping will not restore its hold.
