A rubber seal grommet around a wiring harness must account for the bundle's actual outside shape. Several wires grouped together can leave valleys between jackets, while tape or sleeving may create overlaps. A nominal bundle diameter does not describe all the possible paths at that interface.
Custom profiles and material choices allow the grommet to be developed for the finished harness configuration. Establish whether the sealing region contacts an outer sleeve, a defined wrapping area or another prepared surface. The panel interface needs its own appropriate seating geometry, independent of the cable contact.
Evaluate the complete entry under the required exposure conditions. After routing, check that the harness has not pulled the rubber away from the panel or distorted the intended sealing region. Keep particles and loose wrapping ends out of the contact area during installation. If the harness construction changes later, review the seal arrangement rather than relying on an unchanged overall diameter. Inspect both the outer panel seat and inner harness contact during maintenance, since either region can be disturbed independently.
Photos illustrate structure or material only. A nominal bundle diameter does not describe all the possible paths at that interface. ETOL directly manufactures custom-shaped silicone and rubber parts to your requirements.
