A rubber cushion washer provides an annular rubber layer beneath a selected contact point. Its cushioning role depends on the area carrying the load and the compression available in the joint. A narrow fastener head and a broad supporting face can deform the same washer differently, so the surrounding hardware needs to be part of selection.
Check the inside diameter, outside support, and thickness. The black silicone version should be specified for the actual temperature and substances at the interface. If the washer also seals, evaluate that continuous contact path separately from its role as a compliant spacer.
Center the part before closing the joint and keep the rubber clear of unsupported gaps. Avoid turning unrestrained hardware against the washer in a way that drags its surface into a fold. During maintenance, inspect for material squeezed beyond the seat or a permanent uneven shape. Correct the loading or support arrangement where needed rather than adding another washer and changing the intended closing height.
