This rubber stopper can be customized for a defined opening or contact location. Where the part acts as a plug, its outer profile engages the receiving hole. Where a stop function is required, the exposed rubber face provides the point of contact. These uses place different demands on the shape, so the intended duty should guide the design from the beginning.
A plugging arrangement needs suitable insertion depth and retention, with enough access for removal when servicing is expected. A bumper arrangement needs support behind the contact face and sufficient space for its working deformation. Combining both functions requires attention to whether repeated contact could gradually loosen the plug in its seat.
