A silicone rubber bushing provides a round rubber interface where a cable passes through a panel opening. The custom profile can locate in the panel while the central passage follows the cable. Hole size, panel thickness, cable diameter and rubber hardness are all relevant to the finished arrangement.
The panel and cable form two separate interfaces. At the outside, the bushing must seat around the finished hole edge without leaving a section displaced. At the center, the passage must suit the actual cable jacket and its shape. A bushing that fits the panel correctly can still leave an unsuitable opening around the cable, so both fits should be assessed together for any water exclusion requirement.
Plan the assembly sequence around connectors and terminations. A finished connector may be larger than the cable passage, which can affect whether the bushing is installed before termination or needs another designed arrangement. Do not solve that conflict by tearing or enlarging the finished passage.
Remove burrs from the panel and seat the locating region around the full circumference. Support the cable along its route so a tight bend or side pull does not displace the rubber. Inspect the entry after routing is complete, especially on the hidden side of the panel. Any strain relief or water protection requirement belongs to the complete cable entry arrangement, including its supporting hardware and selected silicone formulation.
