A rubber thin gasket needs an outline and handling method that preserve its narrow sections. Even when tear resistance is a material-selection priority, cuts introduced during fitting can affect the part. The inner corners and areas around locating features should therefore be considered when developing the custom shape.
Choose the silicone or other rubber formulation for the required exposure and evaluate the finished profile rather than assuming a descriptive tear-resistant label defines a tested limit. Black color is an appearance choice and does not identify a single material grade.
Support the gasket as it is positioned, keeping sharp fasteners and tools away from the thin edge. If the outline does not settle onto the intended face, inspect orientation and dimensions before stretching it. Close the joint without trapping an edge beneath a locating feature. During replacement, inspect the corresponding metal or plastic surface wherever a tear has occurred so a burr or projecting corner does not damage the next gasket in the same place.
