Develop the outline and section around the actual gap and sealing land. More softness is not automatically the solution to an uneven joint; a poorly supported section may move into an unintended clearance. Evaluate the gasket with the complete mating components and the required fastening arrangement.
Any water-sealing requirement should be checked under the intended operating conditions. During fitting, inspect for a rolled edge or rubber trapped beside a locating feature before access is lost.
