A rubber flat gasket for a specially shaped flange must register with both the contact perimeter and any fastening openings. Aligning one bolt hole is not enough if another corner or passage sits outside its intended position. The profile should fit naturally without being stretched between locating points.
For a Viton or FKM configuration, select the formulation for the actual medium and temperature. The material name does not establish a universal pressure or chemical-resistance rating. The flange faces and fastening arrangement need to provide the compression required by the complete joint.
Inspect the gasket outline before closure, including narrow sections and internal corners that can be folded out of view. Use the assembly's defined fitting procedure. During maintenance, compare any damage with the receiving geometry rather than assuming the compound is the only cause. A replacement should preserve the chosen shape and thickness so the flange continues to load the intended sealing area around every required opening.
