A round silicone seal gasket forms a circular contact region between matching machine surfaces. Its central opening should preserve the intended passage while the surrounding rubber receives the closing force. Selecting only the outside diameter can leave too little sealing width or allow the inner edge to intrude where material needs to remain clear.
Compare the gasket with the complete face geometry, including recesses, shoulders, and the fastener arrangement. Thickness should suit the intended compression rather than compensate for a damaged mating surface. Silicone compatibility must be considered for the actual medium and temperature at the joint.
Position the gasket concentrically before closure. Bring the faces together evenly and check for a shifted inner edge where inspection is possible. If the part tends to move during assembly, address the locating method instead of stretching it over a nearby feature to hold it temporarily. During maintenance, inspect the circular contact band for localized cuts or uneven flattening that could point to an alignment issue or a surface defect on the adjoining component.
