A thin washer can provide a custom rubber interface where the joint allows little section height. The inner opening, outer boundary, and thickness should match the supported seat. If the assembly instead requires a conventional O-ring section, preserve that distinction rather than treating every circular seal as equivalent.
Positioning deserves attention before the mating part hides the washer. A thin edge can fold during handling or catch on a raised feature. Guide the center opening into place first, then check that the surrounding material remains flat and within the contact area.
Choose the compound for the actual medium and temperature. Close the joint using its intended alignment so that the washer is not dragged sideways. During maintenance, remove deposits from the seat and inspect the old part for tears along narrow regions. A replacement should match the specified thickness rather than the altered section of a permanently compressed component. Keep spare washers flat and away from sharp fasteners until installation, preserving their edges and original outline.
