A waterproof hole grommet forms a rubber interface around a cable at a panel opening. It can be customized in dimensions, compound and color, allowing the outer fit and inner passage to be developed together. The sealing relationship depends on the condition of both mating surfaces.
Inspect the finished hole after coating or other panel work. An uneven edge, loose paint or local burr can affect contact around the retaining region. Prepare that boundary before fitting the rubber so the part rests on a sound surface rather than bridging a defect.
Choose the inner profile for the cable jacket where it actually crosses the panel. A nearby change in wrapping or a tight bend can alter its shape at the seal. Evaluate the completed fit with the cable in its working position and under the intended moisture exposure. During assembly, keep loose particles away from the contact area. After later cable movement, inspect for a flange pulled away from the panel. Correct that disturbance before relying on the entry to continue excluding water.
