Rubber Bellows & Dust Covers

Rubber bellows use a folded body to cover a joint that moves, extends or changes angle. They are commonly fitted around shafts, rods and moving equipment connections to help shield the interface from dust and debris. ETOL manufactures custom rubber bellows and silicone bellows with end fittings, folds and dimensions matched to the available travel.

Bellows movement and attachment questions

Which lengths should I specify for a rubber bellows?

Include the required compressed and extended positions as well as the free length. Add the maximum outside clearance and both end-connection dimensions. The folds need space throughout the stroke, not only when the equipment is at rest.

Can bellows accommodate sideways or angular movement?

A suitable design may accommodate more than straight extension, but the fold shape and end restraints must match the motion. Describe sideways offset and angle together with axial travel. Combined movement can compress one side while stretching the other.

How should the ends of a dust bellows be attached?

The attachment can use a fitted groove, flange, clamp or another designed connection. It should retain the end without cutting the rubber or forcing the folds into a twist. Include the mating surfaces and the space available for fitting or servicing the connection.

Can a dust bellows be used as a fluid hose?

Do not infer fluid or pressure service from the folded shape. A dust cover and a fluid-carrying component have different requirements. If the bellows must contain a fluid, define that duty separately, including the medium, temperature, pressure and connections.

Does ETOL manufacture both rubber and silicone bellows?

Yes. ETOL is a silicone rubber bellows manufacturer and also supplies custom bellows in other rubber compounds. For a new design or repeat batch, identify the end connections, compressed and extended lengths, and movement between the attachment points. Material selection follows the exposure and flexing requirements of that assembly.
