Choosing and fitting rubber mounts

What information is needed to choose a rubber mount?

Start with the load at each mounting point, the available space and the direction of movement. Add the equipment's operating frequency and the attachment dimensions. The load may not be shared equally across all mounts, especially when the equipment's center of gravity is offset.

Is a softer mount always better for vibration control?

No. An overly soft mount may allow excessive movement, while an unsuitable stiffness can place the assembly near resonance. Rubber hardness is only one input. Evaluate the mount geometry, load and dynamic behavior together in the working equipment.

How do threaded studs and rubber bushings differ?

A stud mount connects to a matching threaded attachment. A rubber bushing usually fits around a pin, bolt or sleeve inside a receiving hole. These arrangements transfer loads differently, so the connection should follow the equipment's mounting design.

What should be checked after installing vibration mounts?

Check alignment, fastener engagement and clearance under the equipment's normal load. Look for rubber touching a hard stop or nearby frame. A pipe, cable or rigid bracket that bridges the mount can also transmit vibration through a separate path.
