What can be changed when customizing a rubber part?
The profile, dimensions, holes, grooves and attachment features can be developed around the assembly. Compound, hardness and color are selected alongside the geometry. Identify the surfaces that must fit or move before deciding which features can change.
Why do two rubber parts with the same hardness behave differently?
Hardness measures resistance to indentation, not every aspect of mechanical behavior. Different compounds can have different recovery or environmental suitability. Thickness, cavities and contact area also change the force needed to bend or compress the finished part.
Can an existing rubber part be used as a starting sample?
Yes. Compare the sample with the receiving assembly and explain any changes needed. A worn part may have stretched, compressed or swollen, so its current dimensions should not automatically become the production dimensions.
What distinguishes a molded part from a flat rubber gasket?
Molding can form three-dimensional features such as lips, ribs and shaped walls. A flat gasket may be suited to a cutting process when its thickness and outline meet the joint requirements. The geometry and edge requirements determine which route needs consideration.
