Designing and choosing silicone products
How are silicone products different from silicone sealant?
The products in this catalog are formed components with a defined shape, such as a keypad, cover or stopper. Silicone sealant is applied to a joint and cures in place. A molded component needs its own fit and retention design rather than an application bead.
What does silicone hardness tell me about a molded part?
It provides a material comparison on a specified scale. ETOL's solid silicone customization range is 20-80 Shore A, subject to the selected compound. Wall thickness and shape still determine much of the part's flexibility, so hardness should be reviewed with the complete design.
Can a silicone cover stretch over a component during fitting?
The opening and wall profile can be designed for the intended fitting sequence. Check corners, projecting features and local strain during installation. Repeatedly pulling a narrow edge over a sharp feature can damage the cover even when the main body feels flexible.
Can the same silicone be used for a button and a stopper?
Both may use silicone, but their design needs differ. A button must move and return within a supported keypad, while a stopper needs controlled engagement with an opening. Select the compound and hardness for each function rather than transferring a choice based on appearance.
